President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combat smuggling and questionable import practices in the country. Speaking at an Economic Dialogue event in Jakarta, Prabowo called on the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to streamline procedures and crack down on illicit smuggling activities that have been detrimental to local businesses and the public.
Drawing from his military background, Prabowo emphasized the need for decisive action against those involved in rent-seeking behavior in import activities. He stressed the importance of protecting the interests of the people by ensuring fair and non-discriminatory practices in the importation of raw materials.
Prabowo also rejected policies that favor only a few large corporations, insisting on a level playing field in the import sector. His firm stance on promoting fairness and transparency in import activities reflects his dedication to building a more inclusive and just economy.
By eliminating rent-seeking practices and ensuring equitable import privileges, Prabowo aims to safeguard the interests of local businesses and the public. His efforts are geared towards creating a trade environment that benefits a wider range of stakeholders, ultimately contributing to a more transparent and balanced economy.
