Indonesia and France have enjoyed diplomatic relations since 1947, fostering a strong bond based on friendship and mutual respect. This relationship was further highlighted during French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit to Jakarta, where he received a grand welcome at Merdeka Palace. The event was attended by around 3,000 students from various educational levels, adorned in smart attire and proudly waving the flags of both nations.
President Macron’s motorcade, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, made its way to the palace from Monas amidst tight security measures, enhancing the ceremonial ambiance. Upon his arrival, President Macron was warmly greeted by President Prabowo Subianto, with the two leaders continuing to the ceremonial grounds accompanied by the playing of national anthems and a 21-gun salute.
During the ceremony, ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo, were in attendance. President Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia also included visits to the Military Academy in Magelang and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, showcasing the rich cultural and educational ties between the two nations. Following the official welcome, President Macron and President Subianto engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss strategic partnerships, further solidifying the relationship between Indonesia and France.
