The arrival of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in Brazil was a proud and joyous occasion for members of Indonesia’s diaspora. Isaque Hattu, Chair of the Indonesian Diaspora in São Paulo, expressed his enthusiasm as he welcomed the President and the delegation. Despite being a relatively small community in Brazil, the Indonesian diaspora showed strong solidarity in welcoming their homeland’s leader.
Hattu introduced himself to President Prabowo and highlighted the happiness within the diaspora community in having the opportunity to greet him. During their interaction, Hattu shared about his family background, revealing his parents’ origins from Maluku and Kupang. President Prabowo showed genuine interest in Hattu’s story, acknowledging his parents’ work as missionaries in Brazil years ago.
In a warm exchange, President Prabowo recognized the name of Petrus Oktavianus, an Indonesian figure previously assigned to Brazil. As their meeting concluded, Hattu expressed hope that Prabowo’s leadership would strengthen ties between Indonesia and Brazil through cultural exchange and grassroots engagement. The goal is to enhance Brazilian understanding of Indonesia’s richness, fostering continued growth in the relationship between the two nations.
