Travel Advisory for Southern Thailand: Latest Update
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a travel advisory, advising against all but essential travel to the southern region of Thailand, near the Thailand-Malaysia border. This includes the provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and the southern part of Songkhla along the A43 road between Hat Yai and Sakom, and south of the railway line between Hat Yai and Padang Besar.
Specifically, FCDO recommends against all but essential travel on the Hat Yai to Padang Besar railway line that runs through these provinces. However, no warnings have been issued for tourists planning to visit popular tourist destinations in Thailand.
According to FCDO, there is no obligation for companies to refund booking funds if you wish to cancel, and you may not be able to claim on your travel insurance for safety reasons unless there is a change in government advice. Similar advice has been given by the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand.
Additionally, travelers are urged to monitor the security situation amidst the escalating tensions between Thailand and Cambodia. Indonesian citizens are also advised to avoid traveling to the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia, as reported by Antara on Friday, July 25, 2025.
