Indonesia commemorated its 80th Independence Day under President Prabowo Subianto with a unique celebration this year. The State Palace invited about 60 small business vendors to participate, with the Palace purchasing all their goods to serve to the guests, the majority of whom were members of the public. The vendors, such as Wahyu selling traditional kue apem cakes, expressed their gratitude and happiness for the opportunity. Another vendor, who sold es doger, was thrilled to step inside the State Palace for the first time, describing the experience as grand and festive. As a special gesture, 60 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were invited to provide 30,000 portions of food and drinks free of charge to the public at different locations within the Palace grounds.
Many visitors found the chance to visit the State Palace up close to be extraordinary. One attendee shared his excitement on Instagram, noting the usual restrictions on entry to certain areas of the Palace being lifted for the celebration. He also commended the Presidential Security Forces (Paspampres) for ensuring both safety and hospitality during the event. This year’s celebration not only reflected a festive atmosphere but also showcased the Palace’s newfound openness under President Prabowo, bringing together officials, ordinary citizens, and small street vendors in a shared space of unity.
