President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita vision prioritizes the role of Merah Putih Village Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih) in achieving true independence through economic self-reliance and equitable development. Fithra Faisal, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in Jakarta, highlighted the President’s commitment to building economic equity and eradicating poverty from the grassroots level up. The launch of over 80,000 Kopdes Merah Putih cooperatives in Bentangan Village, Wonosari District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, emphasized the importance of inclusive economic growth and community empowerment. These cooperatives, inspired by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen’s philosophy of development as freedom, are designed to address issues such as low product values for farmers and lack of storage facilities for fishers. By providing storage warehouses, cold storage facilities, and logistics support, Kopdes Merah Putih aims to increase value and income for rural communities, while also creating new job opportunities and preventing youth migration to urban centers. The vision is to create a bottom-up development approach that empowers communities and fosters local economic growth, ultimately advancing true independence and well-being for all citizens.
