President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia critiqued the neoliberal economic theory during his speech at the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB). He emphasized the importance of Article 33 of the Constitution, which aims to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the people. Prabowo highlighted the need for a state to address basic needs such as decent housing, food security, and employment opportunities for its citizens.
He underscored the value of democracy but emphasized that it is meaningless if people continue to face hardships. Prabowo pointed out that the true economic spirit of the Constitution lies in Article 33, which advocates for an economy based on mutual cooperation and familial solidarity rather than corporate dominance. He criticized the neoliberal idea of trickle-down economics, which posits that wealth accumulation at the top will benefit everyone eventually.
Prabowo rejected this notion, stating that wealth does not trickle down as suggested by neoliberalism. He called for a people-centered economy that serves all citizens, not just the elite. His speech reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive economic policies and his rejection of models that perpetuate inequality.
