Ratu Ayu Isyana Bagoes Oka, Deputy Minister for Population and Family Development, emphasizes the importance of parents staying up-to-date with their children’s interests and engaging in physical activities together to prevent addiction to games and gadgets. She delivered this message during the Double Check discussion on The Role of Family Development in Welcoming a Golden Indonesia 2045, organized by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) in collaboration with Gempita, in Jakarta. Isyana highlighted the need for parents to continuously learn and upgrade themselves to keep pace with their children’s faster learning abilities in the digital age, as children are naturally drawn to seek instant gratification through social media and online gaming. To counteract this, she suggested engaging children in sports, outdoor activities, and exposure to sunlight to prevent addiction and promote a healthier lifestyle. Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, also discussed the Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI) program as a safe and inclusive space for women, children, and communities to empower them, promote learning, play, and creativity. Through RBI, Tan hopes to provide children with access to safe and creative environments, engage them in traditional games, creative activities, and sports, and steer them away from excessive gadget use.
